A Summary of the Trek Route

After arriving in Kathmandu (city of temples) you will stay there for around two days and prepare for the trek. After your preparation is complete, you can explore the city.

You will start your journey through the drive from Kathmandu to Seti Khola viewing beautiful sceneries on the way. You can get a more accurate description from the information provided in the Manaslu Trek Map.

Your trek will start from Soti Khola traveling through forest trails and suspension bridges. Your destination will be Machhakhola where you will spend your night for the day.

After a peaceful night in Machhakhola, you will head towards Jagat traveling the isolated paths of these regions. You will arrive at Jagat as you reach the banks of Budhi Gandaki river.

After that, you will move forward to Deng walking uphills and entering Philim a small village of Gurung people. You will stay the night in Deng and next day walk to Namrung.

Manaslu Trek Day to Day Guide

Drive from Kathmandu – Soti Khola

Trek duration: 8 hours

Trek distance: 141.3 km

Maximum Altitude: 700 m to 860 m

After arriving at Kathmandu, you will prepare for the trek and explore the capital city. Two days after your arrival on the third day you will travel to Soti Khola by Bus. On your journey to Soti Khola, you will view barren lands, villages, etc.

You will pass Arughat Bazaar and start trailing off road from Dhading Besi. You can sight beautiful mountains on the way. After a long drive on the bus, you get to rest at Soti Khola for the day. This day your travel will start and finish on the bus.

Soti Khola – Machhakhola

Trek duration: 6 to 7 hours

Trek distance: 8.7 miles

Maximum Altitude: 930 m

From today your trek will start, your first destination will be Machhakhola. As you reach the higher ground you will notice the change in the landscape. In this trial, you will have to walk uphill and downhill.

You will walk through forests, rocky paths, and cross suspension bridges. After a long day’s walk, you will stay in Machhakhola for the night.

Machhakhola – Jagat

Trek duration: 5 to 6 hours

Trek Distance: 13.7 miles

Maximum Altitude: 1410 m

Your next destination will be Jagat, the trails are isolated and untouched which makes this part unfamiliar. After walking for about an hour and a half you will reach khorla Besi village.

Then you will head towards Tatopani which is one of the natural hot springs in Nepal. Ahead of this settlement, you will see waterfalls. You will also cross a suspension bridge that flows over the Budhi Gandaki river.

Again, you will cross a suspension bridge as you trail through the paths and reach doban. After that, you will take a sheer decline until you reach the banks of the Budhi Gandaki river. After some time, you will reach Jagat and spend the night there.

Jagat – Deng

Trek duration: 6 to 8 hours

Trek distance: 12.3 miles

Maximum Altitude: 1860 m

Today you will take an uphill trail till you reach a flatland. This day you will cross Budhi Gandaki river a couple of times. After crossing the Budhi Gandaki River you will enter Philim.

Philim is mostly filled with Gurung Community. They have many small monasteries. You will walk past rhododendron trees filling the forest and making it look really beautiful.

Along the trails, you will observe many waterfalls, mesmerizing views of mountains such as Ganesh Himal IV. After reaching Deng you will Overnight there.

Manaslu Short Trek

Deng – Namrung

Trek duration: 5 to 6 hours

Trek distance: 12.1 miles

Maximum altitudes: 3530 m

Today you will head towards Namrung one of the culturally remarkable sections. You will cross the Budhi Gandaki river and climb to the bridge which joins the trail from Bhi. Then head west up through alpine vegetation, forests, and villages. You will also see some major peaks as you move ahead.

We will get to see many Monasteries on the way. You will also come across Mani walls and flags of Buddhists. This area is filled with Buddha worshippers. As you follow the paths through the dense forest it will lead to a narrow gorge. Keep walking until the forest becomes less dense, you will get to observe the magnificent Manaslu Conservation Area. After one last climb, you reach your destination.

Namrung to Samagaon

Trek duration: 6 to 7 hours

Trek distance: 10.9 miles

Maximum Altitude: 4359 m

Today you will head towards Samagaon where you will let your body adapt to the climate for above altitudes. On your way to Samagaon, you will view the beautiful sight of Mount Manaslu. As you move forward on the trails you will pass through forests and reach a village with many stupas and barely terraces. Then the route declines and passes many villages along the way.

When you reach Samagaon you will stay one night and one day in this village. It is a beautiful village where trekkers stop to rest during their trek. People stay here and explore the village to adjust to higher altitudes.

You can either hike up to Manaslu Base camp or visit the Pungyen Monastery. The monastery is two and a half hours far situated on the south side of the village. From the monastery, you can get the many glaciers. One of them is Birendra tal where the glaciers of Manaslu melts into the turquoise lake.

You can also explore the rich cultures of Sherpa, and view thousands of Mani stones with Buddhists text. After exploring for the day you will return back to the village and rest for the night.

Samagaon – Samdo

Trek duration: 4 to 5 hours

Trek distance: 10.1 miles

Maximum altitude: 3860 m

You will rise early this morning as the view of sunrise is mesmerizing from here, the trails are not very difficult. Walking through these trails you will reach a pasture land where yaks are grazing.

You’ll move through many mani walls as the valley widens. The view of the mountains is breathtaking as you get close to the Tibetan border.

You will be astounded with the mesmerizing view of the landscape you get close to the Tibetan border. As you move forward you will walk through forests of juniper and birch in Kermo Kharka.

You will find it exciting as you walk watching the beauty of nature. You will drop down and cross Budhi Gandaki then climb steeply until you reach a stone archway that leads to Samdo.

Samdo – Dharmasala

Trek duration: 4 to 5 hours

Trek distance: 7.2 miles

Maximum altitude: 4460 m

The last stop before Larke La Pass is Dharmasala. You will walk past the Tibetan Seasonal market known as Larke Bazar. You will witness hanging glaciers, monasteries, mountains and mani walls while walking through these trails. After crossing two streams you will spot the Larke Glaciers. You will trek around the valley of Salka Khola and start ascending.

Dharmasala used to be an important trading village many years ago but now it’s a resting destination for the trekkers. Dharmasala is famous within travelers, it is not a lodge but shelter for trekkers. You will spend your night here and rest your body for your next destination.

Dharmasala – Bhimtang via Larke La Pass

Trek duration: 7 to 9 hours

Trek distance: 15.3 miles

Maximum altitude: Bhimtang (3700 m) Larke La Pass (5213 m)

Today you will go to the highlight of your trek Larke La Pass. While walking through the routes you will see the mesmerizing view of mountains such as Himlung, Annapurna II, Cheo Manaslu and many more. Weather is the main factor on how challenging your trek will be. If the weather can be stormy or windy sometimes.

As you keep moving upwards the trails you can view a beautiful valley below. Before reaching Larke La Pass you will come across a few Lakes. When you reach Larke La Pass you get the astounding view of the mountains and feel the vibe of Tibet in that area.

This region is mostly home for Tamang, Gurung whose culture is similar to the Tibetans. You can view their lifestyle and tradition. Then you start descending the pass heading to Bhimtang where you will stay for the night.

Bhimtang – Tilje

Trek Duration: 6 to 7 hours

Trek Distance: 16.3 miles

Maximum Altitude: 2300 m

Now you will keep descending as the hard part of the trek is finished. The trails are easy from here onwards. You will walk over many pasture land and walk past villages. As you hike to a ridge you can get an absolutely stunning view of Mt. Manaslu and Annapurna II.

Then you will cross a wooden bridge above Dudh Khola. As you walk the path looking over the beautiful Marsyangdi village. You’ll reach Tilje and call it a day.

Tilje – Jagat

Trek Duration: 4 to 5 hours

Maximum altitude: 1300 m

This is the last day of your trek today. The trails are easy and simple. On your way to Jagat you will view waterfalls and a small few settlements. This is your last day in the Manaslu region. After reaching Jagat you will stay the night there.

Drive back from Jagat to Kathmandu via Besisahar

Trek Duration: 9 hours

After a soulful night in Jagat you will travel back to Kathmandu. You will travel back through Besisahar, and reach Kathmandu.

After returning you can roam around Thamel and view the nightlife. You can also go for massages and spend the night resting after the memorable trek.
